Flexera Named a Leader in the Gartner 2018 Magic Quadrant for SAM Tools

Flexera recognized for its ability to execute and completeness of vision

Itasca, IL - April 15, 2018 Flexera, the company that’s reimagining how software is bought, sold, managed and secured, announced today that Gartner has named Flexera a Leader in the 2018 Magic Quadrant for Software Asset Management Tools based on its ability to execute and completeness of vision.

Flexera believes that its customers also affirmed Flexera’s SAM leadership via Gartner’s Peer Insights product reviews, providing reviews of FlexNet Manager Suite, Flexera’s SAM and license optimization solution.

“We’re proud to be recognized as a Leader by Gartner. But we’re even prouder of, what we feel is, the groundswell of support we receive from customers of all sizes, in all industries. In our view, we stand alone among leaders. Flexera customers who submitted Peer Insights reviews on Gartner.com are willing to recommend our solution to others. We assert that the power under FlexNet Manager Suite’s hood creates simplicity and drives the results customers demand,” said Tom Canning, Vice President of Strategy at Flexera. “But we're not resting on our laurels. We’re doubling down on our culture of innovation. We were the first to extend SAM’s value from counting licenses and compliance to Software License Optimization – on premises, in the data center and in the cloud. Now we’re envisioning how access to great SAM and technology asset data can change the game not only for the Software Asset Manager but other functional groups like security, IT Service Management, IT Financial Management and enterprise architecture teams.”

Expanding the Definition of SAM

The game has changed for companies everywhere. They’re finally demanding more from their technology assets and suppliers. They expect – and deserve – faster time to value, more complete solutions and trustworthy data to drive better business outcomes. Flexera achieves its promise to meet these needs by rapidly building or buying the best technology through M&A. Flexera’s been the only SAM supplier continually expanding the definition of SAM and innovating new capabilities that deliver greater ROI, faster.

For instance, the first to look at SAM through an optimization lens, Flexera lets customers move beyond simply understanding what software they have, and enables them to actually spend less and minimize waste. Flexera’s reporting and analytics capabilities deliver visibility into usage and consumption helping customers buy only the software they need, use what they have, and negotiate smarter contracts.

As a Software Asset Manager in the energy and utilities industry noted about FlexNet Manager Suite, “This product provides the insight necessary to flatten the escalating costs and target unused software in an enterprise. Negotiation postures can be more clearly crafted enabling increase in value of future purchases and maintenance renewals as well as reducing the impact and exposure of publisher audits.”

Reimagining SAM with Data

Flexera’s broad vision of the SAM and license optimization space extends beyond the technology itself to the underlying data powering it. The company has taken up the mantle of data, because it’s the new “oil” fueling Software License Optimization. Flexera’s data platform underpinning FlexNet Manager Suite houses the world’s largest and most accurate technology asset data repository, powered by 150 million data points, more than 223,000 price list-normalized applications from more than 16,000 software vendors, more than 1.36 million Stock Keeping Units (SKUs) and more than 2,000 product use rights templates.

“FlexNet Manager Suite data is scrubbed, normalized and meticulously maintained, connecting executives with the insight they need to make smarter, faster software buying decisions,” added Canning. “Our data platform will change the SAM industry again, so that every customer will be able to optimize all their technology assets – from software and hardware to cloud and Internet of Things devices.”

As a Director of IT Operations working in the finance industry noted, “We have had success with [FlexNet Manager Suite] providing insights into our software estate, including our IBM software. Flexera's rapid growth and strategy to become the software data aggregator aligns with our needs.”

The Future of SAM: Technology Asset Management

In today’s increasingly complex environments, beyond software and hardware assets organizations must also manage cloud, Internet of Things (IoT) devices and other technology assets. But for many, the sheer complexity and newness of it all makes solving this challenge feel unachievable. More alarming, failing to effectively manage technology assets creates financial, security and operational risk – ultimately leading to a poor customer experience.

Flexera continues to lead, evolving the SAM conversation once again. To help companies bring order to the chaos and achieve the long-desired goal of digital transformation – Flexera’s introducing technology asset management. Flexera’s technology asset management solution empowers enterprises to truly manage every device, every platform, everywhere. nbsp; Technology asset management takes SAM to a higher level, combining people, processes, data and technology to optimize spend and risk, unifying departments through a common data language. With technology asset management, Flexera customers can now streamline operations, minimize risk and cost, work better, provide a better customer experience and leap forward as leaders in their markets.
