Macrovision Launches Integrated Solution for Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007

Microsoft Supports AdminStudio Configuration Manager Edition as the Leading Packaging Solution for Microsoft’s Enterprise Application Management

Barcelona, Spain and Santa Clara, CA - Nov 12, 2007 - Macrovision® Corporation (NASDAQ: MVSN), a Gold Certified Microsoft Partner, today launched a new version of its packaging software, AdminStudio® Configuration Manager Edition, to work with Microsoft's recently unveiled System Center Configuration Manager 2007. This product announcement results from an agreement between Microsoft and Macrovision to continually collaborate on an integrated solution to help enterprise IT administrators easily package and manage applications.

Software deployments have a huge impact on enterprise workforce productivity. Successful implementations lead to less corporate downtime and greater user satisfaction. AdminStudio Configuration Manager Edition makes it easier for IT administrators to prepare reliable software applications and patches for deployment through Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007, thereby streamlining the process of getting applications up and running successfully in the infrastructure. With this product, IT professionals can convert legacy applications to the Microsoft Software Installer (MSI) format and customize installers to their own corporate standards, making it easier to distribute and manage those applications, especially for widespread automated deployments.

In addition to working closely with Microsoft around the System Center Configuration Manager release, Macrovision has recently joined Microsoft's System Center Alliance. The System Center Alliance Program, announced by Microsoft at TechEd IT Forum 2007, establishes an online community to help partners more easily collaborate on and create offerings that extend the management capabilities of System Center solutions. Macrovision has been a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner since 2005 and is continuing to build its relationship with Microsoft in order to provide quality solutions for its customers' needs.

"Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 provides IT managers with a single infrastructure for deploying a variety of applications across their environment," said Eric Berg, director of product management for System Center at Microsoft Corp. "The integration of AdminStudio with System Center Configuration Manager will help IT standardize the way applications are packaged and tested, cut software packaging time, and make it faster to migrate applications to Windows Vista."

"IT administrators' jobs continue to increase in complexity as more and more applications emerge onto the market," said Steve Schmidt, VP of Product Management for Macrovision's Software Business Unit.  "Macrovision is continuing to expand the capabilities in AdminStudio to make it the clear choice for reliably packaging applications. As the packaging solution that has been selected by Microsoft, AdminStudio is the right way to go for IT managers who are looking for a solution that complementsMicrosoft System Center Configuration Manager."

The new features of AdminStudio 8.6 Configuration Manager include:

  • Windows Vista support, including expanded support for MSI creation and support for MSI 4.5
  • Product wizard and web-based console that converts MSIs to System Center Configuration Manager deploy-ready packages, further simplifying package distribution via System Center Configuration Manager
  • Tight integration with the System Center Configuration Manager deployment capability to automate and accelerate the hand-off process

Macrovision's AdminStudio Configuration Manager Edition is available now as a limited-featured version of AdminStudio Enterprise Edition. An upgrade to the fully-featured version is available from Macrovision. The complete software packaging solution is built to help IT administrators easily deploy traditional or virtual software throughout their workforce. The full product includes InstallShield® 2008 as a built-in set-up authoring editor which further aids in the customization of application deployment and migration to Windows Vista and highly virtualized environments.
