It’s been 14 years since Flexera’s cloud management solutions were first envisioned by RightScale founders in a warehouse turned incubator near a beach in Santa Barbara, CA. Now, for the second consecutive year, we’re positioned in the Leaders quadrant of the Gartner 2020 Magic Quadrant for Cloud Management Platforms (see Figure 1). When Flexera acquired RightScale in 2018, our vision was to unify how IT organizations manage on-premises assets and how they manage cloud resources. We believe being placed furthest to the right on completeness of vision for cloud management platforms by Gartner for the second year in a row validates that our solution that advances cloud management is being recognized by both analysts and customers.
Leveraging Flexera’s experience managing software licensing and hardware assets, the transition to maximizing the business value from both on-prem and cloud technology is a natural one. Policy-based governance, cloud migration assessment and business service mapping added from our 2019 acquisition of RISC Networks provide organizations with the critical elements needed to achieve their digital business strategies.
The Flexera 2020 State of Tech Spend Report found the top initiative for 303 global IT leaders is digital transformation, followed by cybersecurity and cloud (see Figure 2). This shift to digital business is to meet customer demands for new products and improved customer experience. Companies are using public, private and hybrid clouds to innovate and achieve their desired business outcomes. However, this shift is feeding an increased need for strong cybersecurity.
Cloud transformation is enabling organizations to modernize architectures and retire technical debt. Retiring data centers and moving to microservices has also enabled companies to accelerate innovation. However, this increased velocity of change drives a need for higher levels of visibility and automation in order to avoid budget overruns.
