Since day one, Flexera has sought to be an essential IT optimization resource, from developing one of the most widely used tools for software packaging (InstallShield) more than 30 years ago to acquiring the market leader in cloud management (RightScale) in 2018, and cloud migration planning (RISC Networks) in 2019.

Today, Flexera continues to search out new ways to expand and evolve our solutions, always seeking to help companies realize the power of IT to transform their business.

1987

InstallShield is born. This is the first major entry by the company into the software market during the early days of what would eventually become Flexera.
1998

FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications is launched. The FlexNet Manager solutions will become the industry standard for software management.
2000

The company opens its first European office.
2000

AdminStudio is developed, strengthening InstallShield’s place in the application management space with a powerful tool.
2004

Software giant Macrovision acquires InstallShield.
2008-2009

Acresso Software is spun off from Macrovision as a private company. In 2009, Acresso officially changes its name to Flexera Software.
2010

Flexera opens its first Asia-Pacific office after purchasing ManageSoft.
2012

App Portal (now App Broker) is added to Flexera’s line of solutions. This gives the company the ability to provide enterprises with a self-service app store, changing how they deliver software to employees.
2014

Flexera moves its headquarters to our current offices in Itasca, IL.
2015

Flexera acquires Denmark-based Secunia, a leader in vulnerability intelligence and remediation solutions backed by a dedicated threat intelligence research team. With these powerful security capabilities, Flexera helps enterprises safeguard their software against cyberattacks.
2017

Flexera acquires BDNA and, with it, Technopedia, the world’s largest repository of IT asset data. This forms the backbone of our IT Visibility solution, providing deep insight into IT ecosystems.
2018

Cloud Management Platform and Optima from RightScale, along with SaaS Manager, are brought into Flexera’s portfolio of solutions. Flexera’s cloud offerings are named a leader in cloud management platforms by Gartner.
2019

Flexera strengthens its presence in the cloud management arena by acquiring RISC Networks and adding Foundation and CloudScape to its list of integrated solutions. Now customers are supported at every step, from migration to management, in their cloud journey.
